Conversation Archive and New-Chat Handoff

Use this prompt at the end of any significant AI conversation to extract the essentials for your AI-Memory system.

## Conversation Archive and New-Chat Handoff

Review all conversation content currently available to you and create a concise but complete archive summary for my AI-Memory system.

Do not invent, infer, or fill in missing details. Clearly label anything uncertain, proposed, or not yet confirmed. If earlier parts of the conversation may no longer be available because of context limits, state that explicitly.

Include the following sections:

### 1. What We Worked On

Summarize the main topic, project, problem, or objective in one concise paragraph. Mention the overall purpose and current state.

### 2. Key Decisions

List the specific decisions made. For each decision, include:

* What was decided
* Why it was chosen
* Any alternatives rejected, if discussed
* Whether the decision is final or provisional

### 3. Important Information and Discoveries

Record concrete facts, insights, constraints, preferences, requirements, assumptions, and ideas that emerged. Include exact names, dates, numbers, tools, file names, links, or terminology when available.

### 4. Work Completed

Describe anything that was created, changed, researched, tested, drafted, designed, or implemented. Include relevant:

* Files and document names
* Structures, workflows, or systems
* Technical or design details
* Final outputs and their locations
* Results or conclusions

### 5. Current Status

State exactly where the work stands now:

* What is complete
* What is partially complete
* What has not been started
* Any blockers, risks, or dependencies

### 6. Open Questions

List unresolved questions, unclear decisions, missing information, and topics that need further discussion.

### 7. Next Steps

List the planned actions in a practical order. Include owners, deadlines, or dependencies when they were specified. Do not present speculative ideas as agreed next steps.

### 8. User Preferences and Working Context

Capture any preferences revealed during the conversation that would help another AI continue effectively, such as:

* Communication or formatting preferences
* Goals and priorities
* Tools or platforms being used
* Constraints
* Approaches the user likes or dislikes

Only include preferences supported by the conversation.

### 9. AI-Memory Updates

Recommend which memory files should be created or updated. For each file, provide:

* Suggested file path, such as `profile.md`, `now.md`, `projects/[project-name].md`, `ideas.md`, or another appropriate path
* The specific information that belongs there
* Whether the information should replace, append to, or revise existing content

### 10. New-Chat Handoff

Write a self-contained message that I can paste into a fresh chat so another AI can continue the work without reading this conversation.

The handoff must include:

* The objective
* Relevant background
* Decisions already made
* Work completed
* Current status
* Important constraints and preferences
* Open questions
* The immediate next task

Write it as context for the new AI, not as a summary addressed to me.

## Formatting Requirements

* Use clean Markdown.
* Be specific and factual.
* Keep important names, numbers, dates, file paths, and terminology.
* Separate confirmed facts from proposals or assumptions.
* Remove repetition and conversational filler.
* Do not include hidden reasoning or private chain-of-thought.
* Do not claim to have reviewed conversation content that is no longer available.
* Optimize for completeness without unnecessary length.
